TCS3200 Based Color Sensor Module (RGB Light-to-Frequency Converter)

The TCS3200 Color Sensor Module offers a high-resolution, low-power solution for adding color-sensing capabilities to any digital project. At its core is the TCS3200 integrated circuit, which features an 8×8 array of photodiodes with integrated color filters (Red, Green, Blue, and Clear). Unlike analog color sensors, the TCS3200 converts the detected light intensity directly into a digital square wave output signal whose frequency is linearly proportional to the light's irradiance.

This digital frequency output can be read directly by any microcontroller, eliminating the need for complex Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC). By sequentially selecting the Red, Green, and Blue photodiode arrays using control pins (S2/S3), you can accurately determine the RGB composition of any object's surface color. The onboard four white LEDs ensure consistent illumination, minimizing the influence of ambient light for precise color matching and sorting applications.
